Emergency and Azaad Hit Cinemas with Disappointing Openings Despite Cinema Lovers Day Promotions
Despite the hopes surrounding Emergency and Azaad ahead of their releases, both films have seen underwhelming box office numbers on their opening day. Released during Cinema Lovers Day, which offered discounted tickets at Rs 99, neither movie managed to capitalize on the promotion as anticipated.
Both films had decent pre-sale ticket sales, with Emergency selling 34,000 tickets across the top three national cinema chains, PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis. Meanwhile, Azaad, featuring newcomers Aaman Devgan and Rasha Thadani, recorded 17,000 tickets sold in advance.
Opening Day Collections: Emergency Expected to Earn Rs 2 Crore, Azaad Aiming for Rs 1.25 Crore
Despite Cinema Lovers Day’s promotion, both films have seen lukewarm audience responses. The films have generated little excitement, and their box office fortunes heavily rely on strong word-of-mouth and spontaneous walk-in purchases. While Emergency, starring Kangana Ranaut as Indira Gandhi, is projected to gross around Rs 2 crore on its first day, Azaad is looking at a modest Rs 1.25 crore opening.
Star Cast of Emergency and Azaad
In addition to Kangana Ranaut, Emergency features a notable ensemble cast including Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, and Milind Soman. Azaad, meanwhile, features a special appearance by Ajay Devgn, with Diana Penty and Piyush Mishra playing significant role.
